Bolton born Luke came through the ranks at Wigan Athletic, turning professional in 2008. After a loan spell at Leyton Orient in 2008 where he made three appearances, he signed for the Os on his release from Wigan in 2009. After ten appearances, he joined Rotherham in 2010, making nine appearances and in 2011 made the move to non-league with Harrogate Town in 2011, making nine appearances before moving to Halifax Town. He saw out the season at Halifax, going on to make thirteen appearances, and joined Hyde in 2012, for two seasons during which he made 72 appearances and scored twice. After a loan spell at Chester ujnder Steve Burr in 2014, making three appearances, he left Hyde and joined up with FC United of Manchester, being almost ever present in their back-line over three seasons, totalling 98 appearances and scoring 9 goals.
