Celtic Lose Away At Stafford
By Debbie Taylor

A preventable goal and a wonder strike ensured that Celtic came away from Stafford with no points and no goals.

Stafford had the upper hand, capitalising when Robert Thompson-Brown got behind the Celtic defence during a Celtic attack that had left the defence light. Ross Killock and Luke Ashworth managed to get back, but the tackle saw the loose ball come out to Izak Reid sweeping in unchecked from the wing and curled his shot past Jack Walton.

Stafford seemed to content to break up play throughout the remainder of the half, but Jake Charles managed to wriggle through and dropped the ball off to Connor Hughes, but his unexpected shot was read too easily by Adam Whitehouse.

The game was effectively ended at the start of the second half with a game winning effort from Kieran Westwood, some distance from goal, he chose to shoot, and it was a curling dipping effort that flew into the top corner.

Celtic had to battle to get anywhere in the game, but eventually started to make inroads in the last half hour, but it was insufficient and ineffective. Greg Wilkinson had a good effort that he lifted over the bar and Connor Hughes fired the wrong side of the post with a cracking shot, as did Oliver Roberts and Liam Dickinson, had they gone in, it would have been a different outcome, but instead it was Celtic's second loss of the year, but with Marine losing, Celtic stay fourth bottom.
