Matt joined originally from Tamworth a club he joined in May 2013 from Nottingham Forest. Beset with a few injuries he was on loan at Hednesford and at Worcester, both of whom were keen to keep him, Hednesford especially. Matt started his career at Wrexham in the youth team, but transferred across to Liverpool, for whom he was a regular in their under-21s, and whilst at Liverpool played for the England under-21s, getting to the quarter finals with the England Under-17s in 2011. After his release from Liverpool's youth system he was snapped up by Nottingham Forest in 2012, but failed to break into the first team, and Tamworth were more than happy to give him a place after a loan spell proved his worth to the Lambs. He left Celtic at the end of the 2014/15 season, joining Hednesford Town. He had a brief spell at Aylesbury United before moving to first Northwich Victoria, and then Colwyn Bay in 2016. He rejoined Celtic from Colwyn Bay in 2017.
