On loan from DarlingtonJames joined Blackpool’s youth setup in 2010, representing England Under-16s and earning a professional contract with Blackpool in 2012 going on to making his debut in August 2013. He was sent on loan to Accrington Stanley in 2013, where he made two appearances before the loan was cut short. In 2014, he was sent on loan again, this time to Chester where he only made one appearance against Grimsby Town, but scored. At the end of 2014, he was released by Blackpool to join Shrewsbury Town, where he went onto make just two first team appearances. In 2015 he was loaned to Southport, making four appearances. A loan to Mansfield Town followed, where he failed to make a first team appearance and then another this time to Wrexham, where he made four appearances. After a loan in 2016 to Lincoln City where he made twelve appearances and scored three goals, he was released by Shrewsbury. James joined Southport at the start of 2016/17 season, going onto make 23 appearances and scoring twice in that season. A brief stint with Dover at the start of 2017/18 season followed with one appearance and one goal in the Kent Senior Cup, before he moved to Darlington, where he went onto make seventeen appearances and score once. He has already been out on loan this season, at Warrington Town where he played against Celtic!
