Match Report -
Celtic snatch an equaliser
By Iain Benson

Celtic clawed back a point, although somewhat against the run of play after Bradford had taken the lead midway through the second half, as Celtic looked panicked.

Celtic started brightly enough, Joel Bembo-Leta surprisingly starting up front. Bembo-Leta used his presence to hold the ball up near the by-line before picking out Conal Platt as he came in. A pin-point pass from Platt found Sean McConville who swept home with the Bradford defence at sixes and sevens, unable to cope with Celtic looking imperious.

Celtic needed to hold onto the lead long enough to frustrate the visitors, but three minutes after scoring, a free kick on the edge of the box was powered into the wall, coming back to Richard Marshall who took his second bite and a wicked deflection to put Avenue back on terms.

Celtic came back at the visitors, with Adam Pepper forcing John Lamb into a decent stop. But the goal had given Bradford belief in themselves, and Chib Chilaka brought the best out of Matt Urwin , before Charlie Clamp also tested the Celtic keeper. Chilaka should have put Bradford one ahead half way through the first half, heading a cross narrowly wide when left completely unmarked in the centre of the box. Bradford were going in hard on Celtic, and Chris Howarth was lucky to be on the pitch after clattering several players, earning a yellow card along the way. After yet another rash challenge, this time leaving Andy McWilliams on the floor. Even the Bradford bench knew Howarth should have seen a second yellow and substituted him at the earliest opportunity.

The second half saw Celtic look a little startled. Oscar Durnin was brought on to support Bembo-Leta and immediately had a shot, testing Lamb, but Bradford looked the stronger of the two teams. Chilaka bringing the best out of Urwin when one-on-one. After Warburton had brought down Clamp near the Celtic box, the resulting melee saw Tom Corner's effort well saved, but Celtic could not clear the ball, and a procession of Bradford players swung at the ball, trying to force it through the mass. Eventually it came through to Chilaka and he smashed Bradford in front.

Celtic continued to look disjointed, struggling to get into their usual flowing style. Too many long balls down to Anorou and Bembo-Leta that were easily dealt with. Celtic needed something special to get anything from the game, and it was duly delivered by the left boot of Callum Warburton.

Warburton's fast paced free kick swung through the box, evading everybody except Sean McConville at the back post. McConville side footed home what was a difficult shot to steer home.

With ten minutes left in the match Celtic through everything forward. Anorou was put through one-on-one with Lamb by a great Kristian Platt through ball, but Lamb made a great save to make sure that Celtic didn't snatch all three points when they only just deserved the one.
