Match Report -
Celtic edge one point closer to safety
By Michael Brierley

The return leg of the Bank Holiday Monday double header saw Colwyn Bay come to Bower Fold and emerge with a 3-3 draw in a game that had a typical end of season feel about it.

Although the match was billed, in some quarters, as a crucial relegation fixture, Celtic had probably just about done enough previously to ensure that prospect does not become a reality, whereas the same could not be said for the visitors.

Naming an unchanged starting line up from the side which had played a mere forty eight hours earlier, Celtic took charge of the game from the off and should have scored immediately when Lewis Hatch blazed over the bar, when it would have been easier to score, following good work by Greg Wilkinson and Kelvin Bleau.

Those two were to combine again minutes later when Wilkinson launched a cross field inch perfect pass into the path of Tom Buckley, who lashed home an unstoppable shot to put the hosts 1-0 up.

That joy was short lived as Colwyn Bay came back into the game to take a 1-2 lead thanks to Meadowcoft and Lea, with the Celtic rearguard being culpable on both occasions.

Celtic's first attack of the second half saw Corey Gregory clearly tripped on the edge of the box and Kristian Platt was on hand to net the resultant penalty to level the scores at 2-2.

The passage of play from then on was all Celtic, who maybe should have added a couple more goals to their tally before Chris Hall eventually did make the score 3-2.

That earlier lack of profligacy was made to show when Meadowcroft netted his second of the game to make the final score 3-3 and claim a point for Colwyn Bay, thus completing the seesaw scoring nature that was the story of the game.

It's not been the best of seasons on the pitch but a position in mid table is still possible, as is the chance of silverware in the Cheshire Senior Cup. If either of these goals are achieved then that would mark a respectable campaign for the boys from Bower Fold.
