Mike joined us initially on loan from Hyde United, before joining permanently. Oldham born he started as an apprentice with Oldham Athletic eventually making it to the first team in 1987, and making 40 appearances for the club, before joining Norwich for ?100,000 in December 1988. After a year with the Canaries, he was sold to Preston North End for ?125,000 where he went on to make over 150 appearances and score 8 goals. In 1993 he joined Stockport (again for ?125,000) where he made a name for himself in his nine years for the club, notching up over 400 appearances and scoring 20 goals. In 2002 there was a loan deal for a month to Stoke, before he joined Barnsley. In 2003 after a successful loan spell at Blackpool, he joined them permanently, only lasting a season before joining Accrington Stanley in September 2004. 50 appearances later and he dropped down the pyramid to join Hyde United in November 2005.
