Celtic is delighted to confirm that club legend Matty McNeil has joined Chris Willcock's backroom team.

Matty is fondly remembered at Bower Fold having made 83 appearances for the club between 1999-2002 where he scored 24 goals during the historic 2001 treble winning season that saw Celtic promoted to the Conference National.

Scoring 29 goals in total, Matty joined the club after impressing for Woodley Sports.

Local to Manchester, Matty also turned out for Hyde, Macclesfield Town, Stockport County, Southport and Chester and is the father to current Everton midfielder Dwight McNeil.

Matty has already got stuck in, having joined the squad for Celtic’s 1-1 draw at Atherton Collieries.

Speaking after Matty’s arrival, Manager Chris Willcock said: “Matty’s well known to the club, he’s a club legend and we feel another body around the management team to help the lads in the situation that we’re in will be a positive for us going forward.

“He’s very methodical in what he does and obviously his son is working at a very elite level of football. He knows non-league inside out so I’m delighted to have him on board and I’m sure he’ll bring his wealth of experience on and off the pitch.

“I’m looking forward to working with him.”

Welcome back, Matty!
