Match Report -
Celtic just sedge their opponents
By Debbie Taylor

Celtic’s first goal in open play finally arrived and it was enough for Celtic to take all three points away from Liversedge.

Greg Hall had to be at his finest in the first half, with perennial thorns in Celtic’s side, James Walshaw and Nathan Cartman now ploughing their trade at Liversedge. Inside the first half hour, both had shots well saved by Hall, the first a close-range header from Walshaw, the second requiring a flying fingertip from Cartman. However, Celtic looked far livelier up front and both Aaron Grewal and Raul Correia went close, the latter’s effort narrowly past the post. Moses Yoak managed a long range shot that Jordan Porter watched all the way in.

Up to the hour mark, Liversedge pressed, winning a fair few corners with the Celtic defence rebuffing their attacks until Godwin Abadaki won the ball in midfield, feed the ball out to Ethan Padden, his ball into Raul Correia had to be inch perfect with the home defence swarming all over him. Correia not only held them at bay but fed the ball into the path of Matty Liptrott curving in from the wing. Liptrott’s precision shot left Porter no chance, curling into the bottom corner to the delight of the vocal crowd.

Celtic had the lion’s share of the chances after this, with Grewal seeing his skimmed effort well saved and Ben Woods couldn’t keep his free kick down as the clock ran down to see Celtic rise to mid-table.
