Celtic spot-kick kickstarts the season
By Debbie Taylor
A single late penalty gave Celtic all three points in a game lacking any real chances for Celtic.

Lancaster set their stall out early, with Celtic strong in defence, but unable to create anything going forward. Lancaster seemed content with upending any Celtic attack and look for counterattack chances at the other end, resulting in limited opportunities for the visitors. Kyle Brownhill’s overlapping run and shot gave Greg Hall no problems, but when Dominic Lawson cut inside from the wing and fired his shot across the face, it smacked back off the crossbar. Hall proved his worth halfway through the first half, pushing Lawson’s effort around the post, with a scrambled save after Lawson’s snap shot.

The second half started in much the same vein, Dale Whitham with the only shot until the last quarter of an hour, screwing horribly wide. With fifteen minutes to go, Ben Woods finally registered a shot on target for Celtic, in their tenth free kick in a good position, but though he got past the wall, Jordan Eastham caught easily.

Andrew Teague’s handball in the box from Cameron Darkwah’s cross gave Celtic the opportunity, and Raul Correia made absolutely no mistake slotting in from the spot.

Behind, Lancaster started to play football, but with five minutes on the clock, they got only one chance, Brownhill overlapping Nico Evangelinos and striking early, with Hall keeping his clean sheet with a decent stop at the second attempt, smothering the ball.
