Match Preview :- Lancaster City - Saturday April 16th, 2022 (12:30:00)

On Saturday, Celtic’s penultimate home match is against Lancaster City. Please note that the kick-off for this match is 12:30 and is our nominated Her Game Too match. Women and girls can get free entry, otherwise tickets are available on the gate or online.

Lancaster are currently eleventh, on fifty-six points, eight places and eleven points ahead of Celtic. They have tumbled a little from an early season high of top, but despite a poor run of games from September to November, seeing them pick up three wins in fifteen games, they only tumbled to midtable, where they remained. After a rocky start to 2022, Lancaster turned a corner in March, going undefeated, with four wins and two draws, though they lost their most recent match to Witton. In their last ten away matches, Lancaster have won four, drawn one (their most recent away at Buxton) and lost five.

Sam Fishburn is narrowly leading the top scorers chart for Lancaster as we go into the final games, with eight goals, over Charlie Bailey’s six. Paul Dawson is close behind on six. On average, away from home they have scored their twenty-six goals at a rate of 1.4 goals per game. Their away scoring is far better than their home scoring this season, with their overall average seeing them score their forty-three goals at a rate of 1.1 per game. They’ve scored less than a goal per game at home. They’ve conceded twice as many away as they have at home this season, with twenty-nine of their forty-four conceded goals coming away from home at a rate of 1.5 per game (1.1 overall). Five of their fifteen clean sheets have come away from home, and six of their fifteen failures to score.

Celtic visited the Giant Axe earlier in the season, returning empty handed after Lancaster cruised to a 2-0 win. Their last visit here, just before lockdown, saw them draw 1-1. Our last win over them saw us beat them 5-2 in 2018, whilst their last win was in 2019, when they won 2-1. In the last thirty-five years, Lancaster have visited thirteen times, with Celtic winning eight and Lancaster winning twice, with three draws.

Lancaster’s last match, the 1-0 home loss to Witton, saw Lancaster line up as:
1. Curtis Anderson
2. Sam Bailey
3. Ben Anderson
4. Jack Byrne
5. Andrw Teague
6. Glenn Steel
7. Christian Sloan
8. Simon Wills
9. Enock Likoy
10. Charlie Bailey
11. Nathan Reid

In Celtic’s last match, the 0-4 away loss to South Shields, Celtic lined up as:
1. Grant Shenton
2. Douglas Nyaupembe
3. Josh Edwards
4. Sam Wedgbury
5. Shane Killock
6. Derek Ubah
7. Jake Burton
8. Charley Doyle
9. Conor Falls
10. Stephen Brogan
11. Keenan Quansah

Mathematically, Celtic can still finish in the bottom two, but if Celtic win, that changes and would leave Celtic mathematically safe and possibly lift us to thirteenth. The same is true if Witton lose to Radcliffe at home. A loss for Celtic could see Celtic drop into the bottom three though, if Basford (away at Stafford) win. A win for Celtic would not only see us mathematically safe, but with Hyde (), Gainsborough, Atherton, Nantwich, Mickleover and Radcliffe all within reach, Celtic would climb to thirteenth, with a top twelve finish a possibility.
