Ashton born Derek is currently in Australia, coaching the Adelaide Pirates. He started his career at Coventry City, but a loan spell to Torquay United was made permanent in 1984. He made 54 appearances before joining Swindon in 1985, and then Southend in 1986, where he made over a hundred appearances, two seasons at Halifax in 1989 saw him make fifty appearances, before he joined Hereford in 1991 and made over 100 appearances for the Bulls. 94 saw him join Roochdale, with a spell on loan at Altrincham in 1996. From there he joined Hyde United, before coming to Celtic in 1998. He was with us only a short while, before moving onto Curzon Ashton, Woodley Sports, and Buzton, before rejoining Curzon in 2001.
