A wonder goal from Aaron Dwyer was the high point in a game in which Celtic never got their noses in front.
Vauxhall started well, Jake Kirby-Reed testing Luke Hewitson early on, before Luke came out of his goal to close Jordan Deer, and though Hewitson made the tackle, it left him stranded, so when Deer kept the ball in, it left the Celtic goal gaping, and Besisno Kamilo was on hand to open the scoring for the Motormen. Celtic tried, but Jack Atkinson twice showed bravery taking the ball at both Joe Robbins and Rio Clegg’s feet as both were through on goal. Aaron Dwyer went close, his shot turned away into the path of Ntumba Massanka, but Celtic couldn’t connect. Celtic needed something special, and when Aaron Dwyer took the ball from Ben Dufton-Kelly, he spotted Atkinson off his line and forty-five yards out, looped his shot over the standard keeper and equalised.
Right before the interval, for flattening Cole Lonsdale off the ball, Jay Harvey saw red, giving Celtic a great opportunity to go on and win the game in the second period. However, ten minutes into the half, Deer provided another cross for Kamilo, who found the back of the net a second time. Vauxhall sat back, protecting the lead, and Celtic came close half a dozen times. Jordan Burton forced Atkinson into a flying one handed save, before moments later somehow steering Pawel Zuk’s cross wide, Joe Robbins launched a corker from outside the box, seeing Atkinson use his other hand to palm the ball over the bar. Dwyer fired straight at him after wriggling through a crowded box and Massanka took a touch before firing low and hard the wrong side of the post and though he got a diving header into the back of the net, he was called offside. Robbins curled another past the post before Jaques Etia looked to have equalised but missed the target by millimetres.
Deep into stoppage time, Michael Duggan tripped Dwyer as he surged towards the box. Lonsdale’s free kick struck the wall and went for a corner. Hewitson came up for the corner, but it got headed clear and George Nugent was off towards an open goal. Pawel Zuk and Greg Wilkinson sprinted to catch him, forcing him, but Ben Dufton-Kelly had also followed in, received the pass and walked the ball into the net.
