Goal-shy Celtic lose at Belper
By Debbie Taylor

Goal-shy Celtic succumbed to two goals in five minutes to give bottom of the league Belper Town their first home win of the season.

The opening five minutes saw chances at both ends, with a warning shot put in from a tight angle by Charlie Reaney that required a sharp stop from Greg Hall, whilst at the other end, Godwin Abadaki’s low drive from Tinashe Chakwana’s pull back to the edge of the box saw a fingertip save from on-loan keeper Daniel Moore. Celtic’s backline went missing twice in succession; first, as Reaney danced along the touchline before finding Brodie Litchfield unmarked for a tap-in, and then when Litchfield turned creator with a low cross from the touchline, finding Luke Mangham for another side-footed goal into an unguarded net.

With Celtic struggling to find goals, Raul Correia twice went close, driving just past the post and lifting his shot over the bar when through on goal.

The second half saw Belper more concerned with protecting their lead than extending it. Chakwana managed to squeeze his way through just before the hour mark, but Moore’s fingertip pushed the shot onto the bar and away in a stunning save. Moses Yoak’s free-kick was on target, but barely troubled Moore, whilst Osebi Abadaki in his first game back from injury came close with minutes remaining on the clock. Celtic have now scored five goals in ten matches, and with the North-East trio coming up, finding goals is vital.
