Sorry second half performance
By Iain Benson
Celtic put in a tepid second half performance to allow Solihull to put the game beyond doubt with a late goal.

The first half was played at a frantic pace, with Ryan Beswick screwing a freekick high over the bar and Adam Cunnington trying a distance effort Jan Budtz could watch sail harmlessly wide. Lloyd Ellams found some space at the edge of the box in and end to end opening period, but Jasbir Singh caught comfortably. Beswick's smart shot had Budtz flying to his top corner to tip the ball away, but he was stationary as Henry Eze slipped his marker to power in a free header.

The lead lasted only a minute as Connor Jennings burst into the box only for Theo Streete to bundle him over, with Tim Ryan making no mistake from the spot despite Singh guessing right.

Junior English headed a corner over the bar and Jennings dragged a shot wide before Jennings curled a close range shot onto the woodwork. The rebound came to Ellams, but Dom Langdon palmed his low drive round the post.

There was no second penalty with only a corner. Greg Wilkinson played it short and got it back to drive in a great shot Singh saved with his foot and Phil Marsh's acrobatic overhead kick cleared the bar.

Moors won a trio of corners with Jennings heading narrowly over his own bar, on the third Cunnington dipped in front of his marker to head in Moors second. Wilkinson tried for the instant response, skimming his shot off Lee Elam's cross wide of the mark. At the other end Joel Grandison's powerful shot was tipped spectacularly away by Budtz.

The second half held promise, but did not deliver, with neither side seemingly able to reproduce the pace or football of the first. Matt West fired a good shot at Budtz, which he caught at the second attempt, and Hobson flicked a good ball through for Marsh to hit on the turn, but it lacked the pace and Singh was able to scramble across and save.

It wasn't until the last few minutes that the half finally got some life, after Wilkinson's tame effort was scooped up, Cunnington was freed down the middle after a slip from Glen Rule, and he fired past Budtz to give Moors a glossy look to the scoreline. Debutant Adam Kay forced a good save from Singh,as did substitute Callum Warburton off a free kick, but the two goal cushion couldn't be eaten into, and Moors continue their excellent start to the season.
