Encouraging win in final friendly
By Iain Benson
Scott Davies was by far the busier of the two keepers in a game that was fast paced from the off to the final whistle. Newly promoted Fleetwood Town, who beat Celtic on the final game of last season were the visitors.

In half that saw no shots on target from the visitors, Celtic registered the first on target after Nathan Pond had fired high over the bar when he should have done better. Craig Hobson showed good feet to wrong foot a defender before smashing a shot from an acute angle, only for Davies to make a great save, the parry falling to Connor Jennings, who fired wide.

It took some while to come, with five minutes left in the half, before the breakthrough was made. Greg Wilkinson picked out the perfect pass over the defence for Hobson to burst through onto, focing Davies into another great save, this time the rebound falling to Phil Marsh who fired home the half volley from twenty yards past the still on the floor keeper.

Just before half time, Davies denied Wilkinson with a near post stop, and it required the snick of a defender's boot to deny Jody Banim from the rebound.

The second half was still played at a breakneck pace, with both sides making substitutions throughout the half. Ben Saynor replaced Kieran Gonzalez who had not put a foot wrong, and was almost immediately called into action when Jamie McGuire from a free kick forced Saynor into a great save. Midway through the half Marsh had a great chance for a goal denied by the face of McGuire, and from the corner, Davies was still on top of his game as Elam sneaked in at the back post only for Davies to make a point blank save.

The last ten minutes saw Fleetwood looking for an equaliser, and Grant Dell's angled drive was well saved from Saynor. With minutes to go, Saynor made a superb save to give Celtic the win as the ball was played through the box to an unmarked Josh Few, Saynor got right across the face and charged down the shot with an outstanding save, which will be giving Jim Harvey problems as to which goalkeeper he selects.
