On Tuesday, Celtic make the long trip to the East Coast to face Scarborough. Having had a an unbeaten start, Scarborough have since lost twice at home to leave them mid-table.
Scarborough drew their opening two games, goalless away at Basford and a goal apiece at home to Ashton. A run of three saw them pick up their only home win of the season when they beat Warrington 2-0, plus two additional away wins at Gainsborough (2-0) and Radcliffe (1-0). Since then, both South Shields (0-2) and, most recently, Bamber Bridge (4-2) have beaten them at home. The Bamber Bridge result is their worst home defeat since promotion into the Northern Premier and could have been slightly worse, if not for a last minute consolation goal from former Celt, James Cadman.
Over the two curtailed seasons, Scarborough were largely unbeaten at home, their only loss a 1-0 to Lancaster in November 2019. Whilst we lost at home to them last season, we did not play them at their place, unlike the previous two seasons where we drew and won, meaning we have something of a record against them since their reformation. Even prior to their reformation, we have had a good record in Scarborough, Matty Barlow’s goal in 2007 being the final nail in Scarborough’s coffin that season. In the first curtailed season, only a world class equaliser prevented Darius Osei’s opener from being the winner, whilst the 2018/19 season saw Scott Bakkor and Joshua Solomon-Davies battle the wind to grab two late goals and overturn James Walshaw’s opener.
In Scarborough’s last match, the 2-4 home defeat by Bamber Bridge, Scarborough lined up as:
1. Michael Ingham
2. Bailey Gooda
3. Ashley Jackson
4. Lewis Maloney
5. Will Thornton
6. Dylan Cogill
7. Nick Hutton
8. Ryan Watson
9. Michael Coulson
10. Lewis Turner
11. Nathan Cartman
Celtic’s last match was the 2-1 away defeat at Matlock Town, in which we lined up as:
1. Lewis Hood
2. Dougie Nyaupembe
3. Ashley Smith-Brown
4. Ioan Evans
5. Connor O’Grady
6. Shane Killock
7. Keenan Quansah
8. Sam Wedgbury
9. Kieran Wells
10. Scott Bakkor
11. Jay Fitzmartin
Celtic were missing Grant Shenton, Stephen Brogan, Keano Deacon, Charley Doyle and Callum Harris through injury, adding to this, Dougie Nyaupembe limped off against Matlock.
