Nigerian born Obi joins from Barrow, a team for whom Obi was an instant hit during his time on loan there. He started his career with Liverpool academy, but was released after breaking his ankle; Dean Saunders at Wrexham stepped in to offer him a scholarship, and he began at Wrexham in 2009 as a trainee, making it through to the first team where he made over twenty appearances, mainly as a sub, scoring twice. As a reserve, he scored 29 goals in 22 appearances. In September 2009, he was on loan at Newtown, and in 2011, joined Vauxhall Motors first on loan, later signing for them. A move to Barrow came in 2012 (the team against who Obi had scored his first senior goal for Wrexham against), but he couldn't break into first team, and was sent on loan to Vauxhall, to finish out the season.
