Match Report -
Situation getting dire!
By Debbie Taylor

In the basement battle between Gloucester and Celtic, Gloucester edged closer to safety at Celtic's expense with a slender 1-0 victory.

The goal was the highlight of a desperate first half where it seemed both teams were more eager on not losing than they were in winning, though both sides saw goals ruled out for offside in the early exchanges, Sean McConville furious at the decision. Charlie Griffin got the decisive goal midway through the half, with a thumping header from Billy Jones's free kick and the Celtic defence absent.

The goal got Celtic going, and Liam Dickinson fired straight at Mike Green signalling the start of the attack, with Josh Green, Sean McConville and Paul Ennis all going very close as the half ran out.

Celtic started the second half well, Ryan Crossdale dragging his shot wide, and Jack Ryan heading straight at Green. Sean McConville nearly rescued Celtic single handedly with a trademark jinking run and shot that Green superbly tipped away. Obi Anorou dashed through the middle, but his shot lacked power, and Crossdale again missed the target as Celtic looked to find the breakthrough. One-on-one with Green, Anorou chose wrong, putting the ball weakly into Green's midriff, before Liam Dickinson smacked a dipping half volley towards goal, only for Green to pull off the save of the match. Gloucester were let off moments later when McConville's mazy run down the wing saw him cut inside and unleash a curling effort that saw Green grasping air, and relieved to see the shot thump against the crossbar. Though Obi Anorou twice went close it was a case of not to be for Celtic, and they remain rooted in the drop zone.
