We’re pleased to confirm the signing of defender Danny Lafferty!

The experienced centre back joins Celtic from Macclesfield after helping The Silkmen reach the NPL Premier Division play-off final.

Danny made 20 appearances for FC United of Manchester last season prior to his move to Macclesfield, and was a key part of Neil Reynolds’ defence.

After making the move to Celtic ahead of the 2024/25 season, Danny told us: “I’m really excited to sign for a big Club. I can’t wait to get going and hope to have a very successful season. I’m looking forward to getting down to Bower Fold and meeting all the lads.”

Manager James Kinsey added: “Laff is player who was in high demand. He is a really experienced leader that is coming here to try and be a winner with us. He made the move from FC United to Macclesfield last season where he was brilliant for them in the league above.

“Away from football, he is a friend so we know exactly what we’re going to get with him as an individual.

“Signing him also gives us even more height and a physical presence, something which we were looking to address for next season.

Making 116 appearances for Radcliffe after signing in 2013, Lafferty moved to Atherton Collieries in 2016 where he spent six years, becoming a fans favourite and their captain.

Moving to Bury last summer where he was named captain, he stepped up to join FC United in November and was snapped up by Macclesfield for the final six weeks of the season as they made it to the NPL play-off final.
