James has a wealth of football league experience and has played over a hundred football league games with Stockport, Brighton and Wycombe. He started at Reddish Villa until he was picked up by Stockport County scouts and progressed through the ranks at Stockport. He became a first team regular before moving to Brighton and Hove Albion in 2009. Loan spells with clubs like MK Dons followed as Brighton changed manager to Gus Poyet, and in 2011, he left Brighton to join Wycombe Wanderers, more loan spells followed (including a spell at Crewe Alexander) despite scoring Wycombe's only goal from a corner in the whole of the 2011/12 season. He was released at the end of the 2012 season, and returned to where it all began at Stockport. However, with the departure of manager Jim Gannon, he fell out of favour, and has been sent on loan to get some games, for which Celtic are happy to oblige!
