Player Profile - David Fish (24th Oct 2000 - 5th May 2002)
David spent 3 years at Manchester United playing alongside Wes Brown.
He became idolised in Ireland where fans stole his gloves from his hotel room as a souvenir (they left cash, etc.) before he took a YTS at Stockport County having turned down numerous clubs including Everton, York City, Bury and Tranmere.
He played mainly for the youth and reserve teams, but at the start of his 2nd year age 16 he played a couple of games with the 1st team in Portugal and was in the 1st team squad at the start of the season prior to County signing Eric Nixon. His goalkeeping coach rated him higher than Stephen Bywater who went to West Ham from Rochdale for a ridiculous amount of money. After 1 year as a pro, he was released as County cut their wage bill. His final game was the Pontin's League Cup Final at Tranmere. With his confidence shattered, he turned down offers from a number of Unibond clubs and joined Woodley Sports in the North West Trains League with whom he excelled and was a vital member of the championship squad, playing in all but 1 game. Whilst playing for Woodley he won the "North West Trains division Safe Hands" two months running.
David became an instant hit with the crowd, saving a penalty on his debut against Worksop Town.
His nickname is predictably 'Fishy' but he has also been labelled 'Billy' after the Viz character. He has won medals in every season that he has played!
