Celtic Lose Away At Lancaster City
By Deborah Taylor

A single goal was enough to provide Lancaster their first home win of the campaign in a game that was frustrating to watch.

Celtic had the majority of the chances in the first half. Both Ross Dent and Matty Wolfenden lifted their shots over the bar, Dent from close range and Wolfenden curling from the edge of the box. Dent got two more chances, a cracking header from a free kick that flew wide, and a flick off Scott Bakkor's low cross that flew past the other post. Bakkor himself took on the fullback, got into the box and cleared the bar, leaving both keeper's unneeded throughout the half.

Greg Wilkinson was brought on at the start of the second half and did manage to get a shot on target, firing straight at the keeper. Whilst Paddy Wharton's first call into action came on the hour mark, when he did well pushing a strike from Tom Kilifin out of danger when Celtic didn't clear a corner. Celtic's best chance of the game fell to Wolfenden, a surging run to latch onto Liam Tongue's sweeping cross and only a last ditch block at the near post from Steve Williams denied Wolfenden the opening goal. Wolfenden was also incredibly close when Wilkinson's curling cross flew across the face of goal, with Wolfenden inches away from connecting.

Celtic's lack of goals against a largely unadventurous team cost dearly. Michael Clarke limped off, replaced by Niall Flint, during the re-organisation, Kilifin was given the freedom of the park to collect a long diagonal ball from Charlie Russell. With all the time to pick out a cross that he needed, he found Ryan Winder arriving ahead of Danny Brady to stab home the game's only goal.

The remainder of the game was played virtually totally around Lancaster's box, with corner after corner as Lancaster defended in numbers. And yet, throughout that half an hour, Brady managed to head one corner wide of one post, and Ross Dent headed the wrong side of the other post leaving Celtic with the majority of the possession and nothing to show for it.
