Match Report -
Celtic keep the pressure on
By Deborah Taylor

In tough conditions against hard-working opponents, Celtic took what few chances were available to keep the pressure on the play-off pack.

On a hard, dusty pitch, both teams had to resort to lofted balls, though with an unpredictable bounce, this held its own problems, resulting in possession exchanging constantly. Moments after clattering Jack Irlam and earning a yellow, former Celt, Matty Liptrott, did it again, but this time in the box. Irlam took the penalty himself and though former Celt, Greg Hall, went the same way, Irlam had enough on it to open the scoring. For the rest of the half, the game continued As before the goal, with the closest Wythenshawe Town coming to a goal was just before the interval, when Kieron Molloy fired straight at Charlie Monks.

Javid Swaby-Neavin was the architect for Celtic’s second right at the start of the second half, his long throw coming back to him and his curling cross to the back post met with a glancing header by Max Leonard. Swaby-Neavin almost capped an excellent performance with a goal of his own a moment later, hammering his effort at an acute angle only for Hall to catch. Both Lewis Rawsthorn and Irlam fired over the bar, whilst at the other end, Monks made a decent stop to keep out Malloy, whilst his save at the end, tipping over Joel Igwewanne’s header earned him a clean sheet and ensured Celtic took all three points.

With Chasetown also winning, Celtic stay five points off the play offs with three games left.
