On Saturday, Celtic are back in league action to face Witton Albion. Witton are currently twentieth after three games on one point. Ten places and three points behind Celtic. Kick off 3pm.
Witton have had a slow start to the season, picking up one point at home to Chasetown on the opening day. This continues from a lacklustre season last season, which saw them finish seventeenth on fifty-four points, eleven places and sixteen points behind Celtic. In their last ten games of last season, they picked up eight from a possible thirty points, with two home wins, one over Widnes (1-0) and the other over Chasetown (2-1). Their other two points came from a 1-1 away draws at Vauxhall and Bootle. Witton did have a great spell in December and January, winning six matches, lifting them out of the danger zone for a while.
Their top scorer last season was James Hooper who found the net six times, with Joe Duckworth netting five before coming to Celtic. Duckworth is back with Albion this season and has already scored. Twenty-four different players got onto the score sheet last season. Overall they had the seventh worst attack, and the eighth worst defence. On average, last season, they scored 1.1 goals per away game (1.3 overall) failing to score in six away matches (twelve overall), and conceded 1.8 goals per away game (1.5 overall), keeping four of their eight clean sheets on the road.
Celtic won both games over Witton last season, 1-0 at their place (Joe Duckworth with the goal) and 3-0 at Bower Fold (Jack Irlam, Lewis Rawsthorn and Max Leonard) ina comfortable game. Witton’s last win over us was at their place at the end of the 23/24 season, whilst their last win at Bower Fold was in 2019 coming away 2-0 victors. In their last ten visits, Celtic have won four, Witton three and there have been three draws.
