Match Preview :- Vauxhall Motors - Saturday August 31st, 2024 (15:00:00)

On Saturday Celtic are away at Vauxhall Motors in Ellesmere Port. Vauxhall are currently tenth in the table on six points, four places and one point behind Celtic. Kick off 3pm.

Vauxhall have two wins and two losses this season, losing their opening match away at Hednesford, winning their opening home match, beating Wythenshawe 2-0. A 3-1 home loss to Congleton, but their last match made a statement and set an early league record which will be difficult to beat, as they put six past Bootle, with three in reply, getting them the biggest aggregate score in the league so far, with nine goals. In three of the four games, Vauxhall have scored in stoppage time. Vauxhall have scored in all four matches this season, with eleven goals, giving them the third best attack. Kevin Ellison has scored in three matches, while Nick Rushton got a hat-trick against Bootle.

Last season, Vauxhall finished sixteenth on forty-four, nine points and four places behind Celtic. They had the third worst goal difference with -22. September and December saw their best period, raising Vauxhall to ninth, but six wins in their last nineteen saw them drop back to just above the drop zone. Their top scorer, by one goal, was Connor Rankin on seven. He has two, so far this season.

Our two meetings with Vauxhall last season both went Vauxhall’s way, with a 2-1 in December at Bower Fold with Cole Lonsdale getting Celtic’s opener, then improving on that with a 3-1 in Ellesmere, with Aaron Dwyer equalising. Our last win at Vauxhall was a 3-1 win in 2014, when both teams were in the Conference North, Celtic winning 3-1. Since 2000, we’ve visited sixteen times, winning six, Vauxhall winning five and five draws.

In Vauxhall’s last match, the 6-3 away win over Bootle, Vauxhall lined up as:
1. Jack Atkinson
2. Vita Mbolokele
3. Isaac Goodwin
4. Toby Jones
5. Adam Hughes
6. Ben Holmes
7. Jawad Jerbin
8. Jake Kirby-Reed
9. Connor Rankin
10. Nick Rushton
11. Jordan Deer

In Celtic’s last match, the 2-1 home defeat to Trafford, Celtic lined up as:
1. Charlie Monks
2. Pawel Zuk
3. Kyle Brownhill
4. Jordan Butterworth
5. Daniel Lafferty
6. Jack Tinning
7. Ash Leather
8. Liam Tongue
9. Connor Hughes
10. Jack Irlam
11. Jack Bannnister

Celtic have lost Conor Hughes to Darwin, but gained Jordan Buckley on loan. Celtic’s season has been derailed a little, and need to get back on track. But this is going to be another tough game for James Kinsey’s men.
