Match Preview :- Cheadle Town - Wednesday September 13th, 2006 (19:45:00)
Almost a year to the day that Celtic beat Cheadle Town 7-1 in the Cheshire Senior cup, after they?d put a higher division team out away from home in the preliminary round, we are playing them again, in the same competition, after they?ve put out a higher placed team away from home. Kick off 7:45pm at Cheadle.

Ex-Celtic player Dean Martin had given Cheadle a first half lead of 1-0, despite Celtic having the majority of chances (if the minority of effort). A Reedy special half-time team talk saw Celtic take Cheadle to pieces in the second half with Paul Sykes, James Turley and Steve Garvey all getting braces, and Steve Smith getting the last of the game.

Dean Martin is still with the Stockport outfit, but there are a number of new faces on both sides. It?s likely that the players promoted from the reserves will get a run out in the match, if not the full ninety minutes. It may also be an excuse to give Ben Smith his first game for quite some time.

Cheadle haven?t lost at home this season, though they did draw their last match with Blackpool Mechanics. Their previous two matches were both away, and both losses, one to the newly formed Runcorn Linnets, and the other an FA Cup exit at the hands of Alsager Town. With Padiham away in the FA Vase on Saturday, it is possible that Cheadle could go out of three cups in a fortnight. Possible, but Celtic would have to beat them first!

Cheadle are four divisions lower than Celtic, but one only has to look at Nuneaton against Middlesbrough last season to see that in cup football, league tables don?t always amount to much. And Celtic have been put out of cups before now, from teams in lower leagues. Hopefully, though, it won?t take a lax first half to wake Celtic up this time.

Vinnie Braine is Cheadle?s top scorer this season, with three goals, with Dean Martin right behind him on two. They?ve scored eleven goals in all competitions, with seven in the league. They?ve conceded in every home game this season, conceding thirteen across all competitions, and six in the league. In their FA Cup exit, they lost 6-0.

This should be a victory for Celtic, but it?s not guaranteed. They will need to be on their toes.
