Match Preview :- Lichfield City - Saturday September 5th, 2026 (15:00:00)

On Saturday, Celtic make their first ever trip to Lichfield City. At the moment, Lichfield are bottom after five games without a win. Kick-off 3pm.

The season before last Lichfield won promotion into the NPL Midlands and finished eighth, but this season have made a sideways move into the NPL West because of geographical considerations. It has not been the best of starts for the Midlands team, losing all five opening matches, starting with a 4-1 loss away at Lower Breck, and most recently losing 3-2 away at Chasetown. They’ve had two home games so far this season, beaten 6-1 by Witton and (most recently) 3-0 by Stafford. If cup competitions are included, Lichfield are now on seven consecutive losses, going out of the FA Cup 6-0 away at Lye, and out of the FA Trophy 5-0 at home to Matlock.

They are scoring and have got six goals in five games, with Dylan Thomas just about in front on two. Five of those goals came in their three away matches. At home, they’ve scored one in two games, snatching a consolation in their 6-1 defeat to Witton. In the same five games, they have conceded 20, nine at home, 11 away. If the last two cup games are included, they have conceded 31 goals in seven matches, 14 in three home matches.

We’ve never played Lichfield before in any competition.
