Celtic’s last league match of the season might not mean much in terms of final positions, but it would be good to finish the season unbeaten. Saturday’s visitors will be City of Liverpool, currently rock bottom on fifteen points, sixteen places and fifty-two points behind Celtic. Kick off 3pm.
City of Liverpool have several unenviable records this season, They have the highest home defeat, when Stafford beat them 8-0, and the highest aggregate score, when Nantwich beat them 8-2. Highest away defeat is currently Clitheroe’s loss 8-1 away at Hednesford, but if Liverpool want to go for a clean sweep… we’d be amenable. They also hold the records for the most consecutive losses (thirteen) and most consecutive games without a win (sixteen). They have won the fewest games this season (three), and the only team not to have won at home with all three wins coming on the road. Their last win was at the start of January, when they beat Hanley, whilst their last point came at home to Avro at the start of February. Since then, they have equalled their own record of thirteen consecutive defeats, though they could beat that on Saturday. They have occupied bottom spot since November. They have been mathematically relegated for several weeks now.
Other records held by Liverpool this season are the most consecutive games conceding at least one goal (thirty-nine) and the most consecutive games without scoring (six). They have scored one goal in their last nine matches, in their 4-1 defeat at home to Wythenshawe. The last time they scored away from home was a 4-1 defeat to Trafford at the start of February. On average, they score a goal per game away (0.9 overall) whilst conceding 2.8 goals per away game (2.8 overall). They have failed to score ten times on the road and have never kept a clean sheet away from home. They have conceded one hundred and sixteen goals so far this season (fifty-six away), but have yet to score an own goal. They have scored twenty of their thirty-seven goals on the road. Liverpool’s top scorer is Xenon Bahula, with seven, with five away from home, he has scored a quarter of their away goals this season.
We are currently unbeaten against City of Liverpool, with last season seeing a 1-1 draw at their place, and a 4-2 win at Bower Fold, with goals from Darius Osei, Connot O’Grady and Aaron Dwyer adding to an own goal. This season we have already beaten them in Widnes, when we won 2-1, with goals from Ash Leather and Joe Edwards.

This is Celtic’s last match. Since Jon Macken took over, Celtic have taken over sixty percent of the available points, and with a goals per game of 1.76, would have been third had that transpired over the season, behind Widnes and Hednesford. This bodes well for next season. We cannot catch Vauxhall, and Avro cannot catch us, meaning we will, regardless of the result, finish sixth.
Max Leonard will be seeing out the last of his three-match ban for an accumulation of bookings culminating against Wythenshawe. Jack Tinning may be unavailable after limping off against Mossley, joining Brandon Newell on the physio’s bench.
