On Saturday, Celtic face the other Warrington, when we travel to Warrington Town. Warrington are currently sixth on thirty-one point, fifteen places and twelve points ahead of Celtic. Kick off 3pm.
In their last five home games, Warrington have won two, drawn one and lost two. Their last win was their last match, when they beat South Shields 3-2 with a late goal, with their last loss the game before when Marske beat them 1-0. Gainsborough also beat them 2-0. In the ten games Warrington have played at home this season, they have lost ten, drawn two and won five. In the three home games they failed to score they lost, so keeping a clean sheet could result in a Celtic win. Warrington have lost two of their last three games, with Whitby also beating them in Whitby.
Stefan Mols is leading their league goal scoring this season, with five, though Isaac Buckley-Ricketts, Luke Duffy and Connor Woods are queuing up behind him on four each. Their thirty goals this season have been split equally between home and away, giving them a 1.5 goals per home game and 1.6 goals per game overall. They have failed to score only three times, all at home. They have the sixth best home attack in the league and the eleventh best home defence having conceded twelve of their twenty-two goals at home, keeping two of their five clean sheets at home. They concede at a rate of 1.2 goals per game.
Since the nineties, we have played Warrington fourteen times, winning eight, losing five and drawing once. Our last meeting, in October, was in the Cheshire Senior Cup. Matty Carson’s opener was cancelled out inside two minutes by Josh Amis, forcing the game to penalties, which Celtic won. Our last visit to Warrington, in 2021 saw Warrington beat us 3-0, which stands as Warrington’s only win over us at their own ground. Our last win there was a 2-1 win in 2019, when Jon Ustabasi and Neil Kengni gave Celtic a 2-0 lead, with Ben Garrity getting a consolation in stoppage time.
