Match Preview :- Whitby Town - Saturday October 22nd, 2022 (15:00:00)

On Saturday, Celtic travel to the East coast to face Whitby Town. Whitby are now nineteenth on eleven points, one point and two places below Celtic. Kick-off is 3pm.

After an horrific start that saw Whitby lose six of their opening seven games, and draw one, leaving them rooted to the foot of the table, they have turned things around, and have now won three of their last five, losing one and drawing the other. However, they are still to register any points at home this season, with their last five games all being away, and their draw in their bad spell also being away.

They have scored two goals at home this season (and six away), both in the same game against Liversedge in their opening home game which they lost 3-2. No one player has scored more than a single goal, though they have eight different goal scorers. This gives them a home ratio of 0.5 goals per home game, from a total of 0.6 goals per game. They have conceded in every home match, with their four clean sheets coming away from home. They have failed to score in in six games, three at home, whilst conceding eighteen goals in total, twelve of them at home, giving an average of three goals conceded per home game from 1.9 overall.

In the past thirty years, we’ve visited ten times, winning six and losing four. Our last visit last year saw us win 1-0 thanks to a second half goal from Marcus Dackers. Whitby’s last win over us in Whitby was in 2018 when they won 2-1 after a goal seconds after kick off and a missed penalty by Celtic and a cancelled out equaliser from Ross Dent.

In Whitby’s last league match, the 1-0 away win over Morpeth, Whitby lined up as:
1. Shane Bland
2. Soni Fergus
3. Coleby Shepherd
4. Jamie Bramwell
5. Danny Rowe
6. Aaron Cunningham
7. Malik Dijksteel
8. Priestley Griffiths
9. Jake Day
10. Harvey Tomlinson
11. Harry Green

In Celtic’s last match, the 0-0 home draw with Marine, Celtic lined up as:
1. Greg Hall
2. Tom Miller
3. Matty Carson
4. Scott Holding
5. Dahrius Waldron
6. Godwin Abadaki
7. Theo Bailey-Jones
8. Dylan Moonan
9. Raul Correia
10. Domaine Rouse
11. Osebi Abadaki

Kyle Harrison, Harry Benns and Ciaran Summers and Raheem Hanley were all missing for the Ashton match though injury. Scott Holding will be missing through suspension, after his two yellows against Ashton. Somebody will end a run on Saturday. Either Whitby will pick up some points at home or Celtic will end their eight game run without a win.
