Tuesday night sees Celtic travel to Witton Albion. Witton are currently fourth in the table with five wins and three draws on eighteen points, nineteen places and twelve points ahead of Celtic. There will be a match centre and Twitter feed for this game.
Witton have lost only twice this season, once at home 2-0 to Altrincham, and once away, 2-1 at Coalville Town. The Altrincham game is the only one in which Witton have failed to score this season, with fourteen goals so far including eight in their last three games. They are scoring at a rate of 1.3 goals per game, whilst conceding 0.8 goals per game, giving a total of eight goals conceded. They have kept four clean sheets (two at home). They have played five game at home with one loss, one draw and two wins. Their joint top scorer is former Celtic front man, Steve Tames, whose five goals put him level Will Jones. Last seasons's second top scorer, Rob Hopley, who scored eighteen last season to help Witton to promotion from the Evostik First Division (south), currently has three.
Over the past thirty years, Celtic have met Witton twenty times in competitive matches, our last meeting was in September 2016 when we knocked them out of the FA Cup beating them 2-1 in the replay after Matty Hughes and Andy Owens scored, following the 1-1 draw at Witton, though Celtic led through Aaron Chalmers sixtieth minute opener, a late goal from Bradley Bauress earned the replay. We also beat them in the Cheshire senior cup in 2014 after an eight goal thriller left the game 4-4 after extra time, and a Jack Cookson penalty save put Celtic through to the second round. Witton's last win over us was also in the Cheshire Senior cup in November 2006, when they beat us 2-1, following on from another victory, when they beat us in the final of the Cheshire Senior Cup in March 2006. Our last win at Witton was in November 2000, when we beat them 2-1 in the Cheshire Senior cup. Our last league meeting was in 1994, when we beat them 3-0 in the Conference Premier. Witton's last league win over us was also in the Conference Premier back in 1993, a game they won 201 at Bower Fold, whilst in the same season, beating us 2-0 at their place.
Witton have a number of former Celt's in their team this season, with Steve Tames, Nick Ryan and Prince Heywood all set to line up against us.
Witton's last match, the 2-1 away defeat to Coalville Town, saw them line up as:
1. Ryan Neild
2. Anthony Gardner
3. Anthony Brown
4. Nick Ryan
5. Matty Devine
6. Ben Hedley
7. Paul Williams
8. James Foley
9. Steve Tames
10. Rob Hopley
11. Will Jones
Celtic's last match was the 3-1 home defeat in the FA Cup to Chorley. In that match, we lined up as:
1. Joe Slinn
2. Danny Morton
3. Joe Garvin
4. Tom Brown
5. Luke Ashworth
6. Alex Honeyball
7. Aidan Chippendale
8. Oliver Roberts
9. Liam Dickinson
10. Gary Gee
11. Theo Bailey-Jones
Sebastian Julien will be available for selection again, after being cup-tied for the FA Cup match, whilst Greg Wilkinson is also back for selection after injury.
After ten league games last season, Celtic had six points from two wins. This season, after nine games we have six points from two wins. If we are to beat last season's start, we need a win on Tuesday. The team are capable of getting the win, but questions will need to start being asked if we do not.
