Stalybridge Celtic is thrilled to announce Liam Tongue has extended his contract at Celtic for the 2025/26 season.
Ever present last year, Celtic’s club captain played all 52 Celtic games last year and picked up a huge five awards at the Club’s End of Season Awards. Scoring 15 goals and finishing as Celtic’s top scorer, the skipper reached 100 Celtic appearances and rightfully received the plaudits from Jon Macken, his fellow players and our supporters.
Safely guiding the Club through a difficult period as interim manager, Tongey has now committed to the Club for the new season.
After finalising his contract extension, Liam said: “It was never in question where I wanted to be playing my football next season - I can’t wait for the new season.
“It’s a Club that I’ve always loved playing for and even more so since returning. Last season was brilliant for me personally but as a collective and as a Club it makes us hungrier for more. See you all in pre-season!”
Manager Jon Macken added: “I’m delighted we’ve been able to retain Liam for next season. The awards he picked up last week speak for themselves. He’s a key part of what we are trying to build here and truly set the standard last year, week in week out. He is a great leader and someone we absolutely want to be here next year.”
Having returned to Celtic last summer from Guiseley, Tongey entered his second spell at Bower Fold and made his 100th appearance for the Club against City of Liverpool on the final day of the season.
Congratulations Tongey!
