The Club is saddened to learn of the passing of former secretary and life-long Celtic fan John Hall who sadly passed away yesterday.

John’s association with the Club covered around 70 years, when he first started attending Celtic games as a youngster. From then on, John got involved in almost every aspect of the Club.

From establishing the Stalybridge Celtic Junior Supporters Club to becoming kit man, joining the board, fundraising through selling programmes and golden goal tickets as well as setting up a pools initiative with Sheffield United as the Club’s commercial manager.

John’s last job at the Club was as our club secretary and he then was made a Life Vice President. John was Celtic through and through and even drove the bus to and from away games!

Life Vice President Peter Dennerly paid tribute to John: “John was dyed in the wool Stalybridge Celtic and someone who changed his career pattern to become the Club’s full-time club secretary. John established the Celtic Juniors Supporters club called Bower Badgers and remained committed to them throughout. Jon is a special Celtic man.”

Rest in peace, John.
