Yes, you read that correctly…a Manchester United Former Players XI will be taking on a Stalybridge Celtic Legends XI here at Bower Fold on Sunday 6th October, kick-off at 2pm, and we simply can’t wait!

Famous faces and old favourites from both Old Trafford and Celtic’s yesteryears will be gracing the Bower Fold pitch and our very own Legends will be managed once again by Phil Wilson, arguably Celtic’s most successful manager in the last 35 years.

We expect tickets for this game to be very much in demand and you can get yours here. If bought online, you will benefit from an early bird discount meaning that tickets are only £10 for adults and £5 for children under 16. A family ticket for up to 2 adults and three children is also available for only £25 too.

Some of the former Manchester United players who have already confirmed they will be playing include Luke Chadwick and Russell Beardsmore.

After making 39 appearances for United in the early 2000s, Premier League winner Chadwick went on to play over 500 senior games for the likes of West Ham United, Norwich City, Burnley, Stoke City and MK Dons; whereas Beardsmore turned out 73 times for United under Sir Alex Ferguson in the late 1980s/early 1990s where he was a European Cup Winners’ Cup winner and European Super Cup winner before going on to make over 200 appearances for AFC Bournemouth. Both Chadwick and Beardsmore also won England under-21 caps.

Celtic Legends who have committed to pulling on the blue and white shirt again include Matty McNeil, Steve ‘Syd’ Pickford, Karl Marginson, Tony Sullivan, Dominic Crookes, Martin Filson and Mark Burrell.

Additionally, former strikers Lee Trundle and Phil Marsh, who each averaged around one goal every two games for Celtic and who now regularly guest for the United former players’ side, will play some time for both sides.
