We’re excited to confirm the signing of goalkeeper Danny Taberner!

The 30-year-old keeper signs for Celtic from Macclesfield and brings a wealth of experience to James Kinsey’s side.

Danny kept the most clean sheets in the 2022-23 NPL West season whilst at Runcorn Linnets as they reached the play-off final and picked up a hat-trick of awards being named Manager’s Player, Young Supporters’ Player and Players’ Player of the season.

After making the move to Bower Fold, Danny said: “Stalybridge is a massive Club and one that I am excited to be part of.

“We’re aiming high and I can’t wait for the new season, I’m excited to meet everyone!”

James Kinsey added: “With Luke’s loan ending, it was important that we drew up a good list of targets to replace him. Tabs didn’t quite play as much as he wanted to last year, but he is hungrier than ever to succeed here, which ticks a big box.

“Secondly, he’s a proven player in this league and has invaluable experience to lead us from the back. He is a lively character that wears his heart on his sleeve.

“His desire to be defensively strong will be key to us trying to achieve our goals. We have signed a top, top keeper and we’re delighted he has chosen to join us.”

Starting his career at Rochdale, Taberner became their youngest ever player when he made his debut in an FA Cup game vs Luton Town aged 16. After moving on to Salford City, he made 94 appearances for Atherton Collieries over two seasons before a successful two years at Northwich Victoria.

A return to Colls saw him then join Runcorn Linnets where after an incredible season, where Linnets saw defeat in the play-off final, Taberner picked up three Club awards as well keeping the most clean sheets in the division.

He joined Guiseley last summer before a stint at Clitheroe and then finishing the season with Macclesfield.
