Stalybridge Celtic have been informed by the English Football League that Liam Isherwood’s one month loan extension from Accrington Stanley will not be taking place.

After receiving approval from the Football Association, the English Football League has informed the club that their rules state a player cannot return to a parent club for a Papa John’s Trophy fixture and then subsequently return to their loan club.

The information surrounding this rule was last issued by the English Football League in September 2020 and was not re-issued ahead of the 2021/22 season.

The club would like to thank Liam for his efforts and commitment during his time with Celtic, having won all of his games whilst a Celtic player.

Celtic are appreciative and thank Accrington Stanley for allowing Liam to spend time on loan at the club and recognise that this is a misunderstanding and not anybody’s fault.
