Match Preview :- Guiseley - Saturday August 27th, 2022 (15:00:00)

Celtic are back at home on Saturday to face our old nemesis Guiseley. Kick off 3pm, tickets available online or on the gate.

Guiseley are currently third in the league. Despite losing 3-0 on the opening day to Marine, they have since gone on to record three straight wins. With two of those games coming away from home, they’ve beaten Morpeth (3-1) and Nantwich (1-0) on the road, with their last match at home to Whitby, winning 2-1. A welcome change for them from last season, where they finished bottom of the Conference North having won nine games all season, with 35 points, just two points from safety. With 31 goals, they scored the fewest of all the teams in the league, but have already reached 6 goals for this campaign.

Lewis Hey and Jake Cassidy are the early front runners for top scorer, both having two. With 2 goals per game (1.5 away) they’ve kept a clean sheet at Nantwich, whilst Marine is the only team so far they’ve failed to put at least one goal past.

Our last meeting with Guiseley, seven years ago in 2015 saw Celtic have a remarkable win away at Guiseley, beating them 2-0 for the first time since 2000, when we won 2-1 at home. In the last match, Celtic’s goals came from Aidan Chippendale and Alec Mudimu, both made by Chris Simm to lift Celtic out of the bottom three. In 2000, the last time Guiseley visited while in the Northern Premier League, Celtic’s goals came from Tony Sullivan and Steve Jones. Guiseley are something of a nemesis for Celtic, dumping us out of the Trophy twice and the FA Cup once, during a period when we seemed to play them every other week. Between 2010 and 2012, we met eight times, with six wins for Guiseley and two draws. In Guiseley’s last five visits to Bower Fold, they’ve won four and we’ve drawn one.

Guiseley’s last match, the 2-1 at home to Whitby, Guiseley lined up as:
1. Kyle Trenerry
2. Ethen Vaughan
3. George Smith
4. Luke Dean
5. Jameel Ible
6. Spencer Harris
7. John Johnston
8. Charlie Wood
9. Jake Cassidy
10. Donald Chimalilo
11. Andy Kellett.

Celtic’s last match, the 1-1 draw away at Matlock, saw Celtic line up as: 1. Greg Hall
2. Ciaran Summers
3. Ben Woods
4. Kyle Harrison
5. Dahrius Waldron
6. Tom Miller
7. Cameron Darkwah
8. Ethan Padden
9. Raul Correia
10. Godwin Abadaki
11. Osebi Abadaki

Guiseley were relegated last season, but seem to have found their feet relatively quickly in this division, with three on the physio table for Celtic, it’ll be tough.
