On loan from Loaned from SouthportLiverpool born John started as a trainee at Wigan in 1991, making it into the first team and earning over 110 appearances where he scored 7 goals. In 1995 he was signed by Lincoln City for ?15,000, making 40 first team appearances in his 3 year stint there. In 1998 he joined Northwich Victoria, and was a regular first team player, with 2 goals and over 70 appearances. Come the 2001 season, come a new club, and John joined Southport. This big strong defender joins Celtic on loan to bolster the defence, though . . . In 2001, he scored Marine's only goal against Southport in the FA Cup, when he bagged a bizarre own goal in the last minute of play! Not that it mattered, Southport were already 2 goals to the good.
