Lee is a product of the youth scheme at Southport - and he pogressed from the youth set up to the reserves, where he won Reserve player of the Year, and impressed enough to break into the fist team during the 2002/03 season, bagging a hat-trick on his full conference debut for the Sandgrounders away at Halifax. He spent a month on loan at Chester, but still managed to make 63 appearances in a Southport shirt, scoring 11 goals from an unaccustomed midfield role. 2005 saw Lee go lon to Runcorn (scoring 1 goal against Vauxhall) and then tranferring to Leigh RMI (scoring two goals in nine games against Crawley Town and Canvey Island), but could not keep either in their respective divisions. He joined Celtic despite Stranraer and Witton Albion expressing an interest. A short way into the season after failing to get regularly into the starting eleven, he joined Skelmersdale United.
