Game off - Hednesford
Player Profile - Matthew Clements (20th Oct 2001 - 22nd Nov 2001)
On loan from Loaned from Cambridge United
Matthew was born in Birmingham, but signed onto West Ham's trainee scheme when the offer was made. However, his real goal was to be an international athletics star, and he fulfilled this ambition when he became a 110 metre hurdles sprinter for Great Britain, appearing in numerous international events. After a severe injury he was unable to continue with hurdling and returned to his former career, having a trail with Cambridge United. Cambridge saw immense potential in the striker, especially with his pace (honed by the athletics track). He is a devastating forward or winger, capable of beating any player in a straight sprint with or without a ball. Cambridge loaned him to hone his footballing skills in competitive games. Something they'll agree we did well, I'm sure!
