Jason was born in New Zealand, and is an international player in more than the 40+ caps he has won for them.
He started his career with Kingz Court, before making the short(!) journey to Auckland's North Shore United, via Norwich City (where he played briefly for the youth team in 1988/89) and Wroxham. His next transfer was a bit further, going to play for Albuquerque Geckos in the USA in 1997. More long haul flights took him for a brief five game spell at Bohemians in Ireland, before making an impact in the Singapore league, playing for the marvellously named Geylang United. During this time, he captained his national side in the Confederation Cup, taking them to Mexico in 1999. He played for a while for Football Kings, a Kiwi team playing in the Australian league where he saw them narrowly lose out to Melbourne.
Obviously the strangely named football clubs were driving Jason batty so he jetted back to England for a three month trial at . . . Grimsby Town. Though his trial did not result in a first team place, Scunthorpe United signed him at the start of 2001, before Paul Futcher lured the international to Celtic.
It is considered unwise to mention Brett Emerson's goal for Australia in New Zealand...
In 2002 he decided that English football was not for him, and he returned to New Zealand.
