Simon Haworth gave his thoughts on Celtic’s mid-week defeat away at Gainsborough Trinity.

On recent defensive errors…

”Collectively we’re not defending well enough and individually certainly not well enough. We’re making too many individual errors, there was three individual errors last night, individual errors last Saturday and we can go back beyond that game, there is more and more of them.

”We’ve tried changing personnel and still not been able to cut them out. We need to keep working hard on it but it really is time that players on the pitch cut out the individual errors, it really is time to start doing that. We take those individual errors away last night and we win the game comfortably at a minimum 2-0.

â€¨â€I do feel that there’s been a bit of a change and we have improved.

”We were worthy of at least a point on Saturday if not more, and we were certainly worthy of three points which we should have got last night and we’ve come away with nothing.

”I do feel like the tide us turning performance wise, we just need to get some results because a lot of these individual errors are driven by a lack of confidence. If we can get some positive results and get that first win on the board, some of the football we’ve played will really start to flow and we’ll be able to get on a good run. ”

On his side creating chances…

”I thought we were excellent with the ball and not very good without it basically.

”We created enough opportunities to have won two or three games now which we should have done.

”We actually took the two hardest chances last night and missed probably six or seven real gilt edged chances, golden opportunities to score. We’re not just talking half chances, we had 21 shots and only six on target. We just made a meal of our finishing which was disappointing.

”If i’m being ultra critical, from an attacking point of view we should have scored a few more.

”I do feel that something is coming, we did manage to get two goals which is good and some of the stuff we played was very good.”

On climbing the table…

“I’m pleased with the performances but not pleased with the points tally, I do feel there is the basis of a good team and a good group of players who are also a good footballing team.

“We’ll keep working hard this week and hopefully we can get the points this Saturday.

“We’ll keep drumming in to the players that these individual mistakes need to stop.

“Whoever does play, if we bring people in then they need to step up and start defending better. If we start defending better, as a team, group and individually I am sure we can climb the table.”
