Celtic were dominant in the first half, North Ferriby in the second, however, but for three pieces of fortune for the visitors in the second half, they would have gone home with nothing.
Celtic scored with their first attack, Kevin Holsgrove holding off Gregg Anderson, and turning to put a ball through the defence for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to run onto, and run onto it he did, drawing Adam Nicklin and nicking the ball past him with a composure that belied his age.
Celtic continued their good football, and Matt Regan could have doubled the lead with a rocket of a shot after Holsgrove's layoff, before that lead was doubled, Stephan Brogan the supplier this time, wrong footing the fullback and whipping in a low ball that Lewin arrived in on, and turned in for his and Celtic's second. Lewin could have had his hattrick when he turned Ben McKenna's cross in at the far post, but went wide, whilst Liam Dickinson's powerful free kick was well stopped by Nicklin. Though Ferriby did have chances in the first half, they were bread and butter for King, mopping up shots from Liam King and Tom Denton comfortably.
The second half saw a pair of changes for North Ferriby, and that seemed to do the trick. Almost from the off, they got their first piece of luck, Matt Regan slicing his clearance into his own net from Jason St Juste's low cross. Danny Clarke got his head on a corner, but King saved comfortably enough, however the save from Josh Wilde's close range effort off a free kick was superb. United rode their luck a little at time, and when there was an intuitive interpassing from Lewin and Holsgrove, the latter was set up for a great effort that dipped over Nicklin and crashed against the bar.
Arguably the game changing moment came when Tom Denton went through the back of Kelvin Bleau in what was a straight sending off any day of the week, except today. Had he gone, there would have been one less stupendously tall attacker in Celtic's box when a free kick was launched in from Ferriby's half, with just about everybody from the visiting team in the box, it was congested, but Gregg Anderson got the telling touch, heading back over King and into the far post.
There was one more opportunity, for Celtic, right at the death as the snow started to come down with a corner, but it's a long time since Celtic snatched an injury time winner, and today wasn't going to end that particular run, so a draw it was.
