Celtic can confirm the signing of striker Raul Correia from Aberwystywth Town.

The 28-year-old striker who is originally from Angola joins Celtic after 18 months in Wales having also played for Bala Town in the Welsh Premier.

Raul started his career at Sheffield FC before moving on to Cheadle Heath and Radcliffe where he saw a move to Chorley in the National League North in 2015.

A return to Radcliffe saw the forward score 11 goals in 22 games which earned him a move to Blackpool who were then in League Two.

Spells at Barrow, Mossley and Southport followed where at the latter under Liam Watson, he made 24 appearances in the National League North before Raul moved over to play for Bala and then Aberwystywth.

Celtic Manager Simon Haworth was thrilled to have Raul join the club, he said: “We really needed a nine, we’ve gone on about it a lot, he’s a good player and we really wanted him before he went to Aberwystywth but we missed out on him but things haven’t quite gone to plan there.

“He was looking to come back into the English setup and because we sort of had previous experience of him and associations, it was kind of easy for us to get him in and on board as he has kept an eye on things in terms of how we are doing and has been impressed with the team we have got and the squad that we have.

“I’m thrilled to get him in and we’ve now got a nine we can play off and involve. He can also get in behind as well, he’s technically good and hopefully he can get us a few goals and link play up for us too.

“It’s the player we’ve been missing.”

Celtic Secretary Andrew Betts added: “I would like to thank Aberwystywth for their assistance and cooperation in Raul joining the club.”

Welcome to Celtic, Raul!

Raul’s signing is subject to international clearance.
