Arlies Primary School were at the Power League Complex in Stockport today, representing Stalybridge Celtic FC, in the National League Trust Girls Cup 2018.

After a difficult start, which saw one of the team withdraw due to injury and the min-bus failing to pick the girls up from school, they arrived in good spirits and raring to go.

That enthusiasm was short lived and they came crashing back down to earth with an opening fixture 11-0 defeat to a very strong Tranmere Rovers FC side.

Next up they faced Altrincham FC and came away with a credible 2-2 draw, two 5-0 defeats followed by Macclesfield Town FC and Chester FC, with the girls gaining some pride back in the last fixture, which saw them run out 2-0 winners v Stockport County FC.

Despite the scores, the girls played well and never gave up, fighting hard to the end of each match, it just wasn't their day in the end.

Congratulations go to Kelsall School, representing Chester FC, who made it through the semi-finals and Final, to book their place underneath the Wembley Arch in May, to compete in the National Finals.

Our thanks go to Mr. Hughes at Arlies Primary, The National League Trust and Stockport County Community Sports and Education Foundation for hosting the finals this morning.
